As an alternative, we have started manufacturing stretcher frames using Spruce. Although the timber is slightly heavier than Obeche, displays a distinctive grain and carries some tight knots, the species is sustainably sourced from such regions as Northern Europe. Spruce’s resilience to wood borer during its entire lifetime, without the need for fumigation or heat treatment, makes it an attractive option where stretcher frames will be exposed to high-risk environments.
