MDF boards with backing frames are becoming increasingly popular for artistic purposes, to be worked on directly (after sealing) or covered with primed Cotton Duck Cloth, giving the impression of a stretched canvas.
This recently completed project, however, used Pine Plywood for the painting surface; plywood handles moisture better than MDF, is more durable, and if sealed with a clear primer, will allow the artist an appealing, knotty surface to paint or paste on.
